So, um, my husband was recently trained in how to be a coach in this
one business management/software development system, and because there’s
no zealot like the recently converted, he’s working on bringing it
home. So our “product” is “a happy, fulfilling life together,” and we
are the “Product owners” and we have “sprints” and “standups” and
“retrospectives” and shit.
…It’s working. Really well. We have a clean house (mostly, and getting better by the day), got shitloads done this weekend, got to spend several hours on hobby projects, and still had a restful weekend!
I mentioned this on a forum I'm on (in fact, I just copied and pasted the above, verbatim) and people were surprisingly interested in how this all worked, so I thought I'd start a blog to both document our process, and help others understand what Scrum is, and how to use it to organize their homes and lives.
Now, I am not trained in Scrum, or Agile, or really any software development systems. I'm a costume and textile historian, currently working in manufacturing. I am not an expert. Along the way, I'm going to explain things badly, because I don't understand concepts fully yet. I'm sorry. I'll do the best I can.
So here's the first post of my first ever blog. I intend the next to outline Scrum as I understand it, and as it applies to household management, followed by the steps we've taken so far.

Just added you to my feedly. Looking forward to reading more, because my brain glazes over at jargon, so hearing your take on all of it will likely stick for me! (BTW, this is LittleGreyCat from LSG)
ReplyDeleteAnd the jargon is SO BAD. There was one point where I was reading the Scrum Guide and while I knew every word in the sentence, I had no idea what was being expressed!
DeleteI think that's one place where this blog can really contribute: because I'm not in the industry, it's easier for me to see and explain the jargon, than it would be for someone who sees and uses it every day.
